  • think you or a family member may have diabetes, are at risk of diabetes, or are newly diagnosed with diabetes.
  • are unable to achieve blood glucose control — that is, if your A1C (glycosylated hemoglobin) level is higher than 7 percent.
  • have problems with low or high blood glucose levels.
  • want to use an insulin pump.
  • want to learn more about diabetes research.
  • want more education related to diabetes.
  • are told you have complications.
  • want to see a specialist like an endocrinologist or a specialist to prevent or treat complications.

This condition is typically treated by experts specializing in endocrinology, geriatrics, internal medicine, or nutrition.
